USTA Southwest offers two different types of educational workshops to help start your coaching journey. The USTA’s Play Facilitators and Coaching Fundamentals Workshops differ in focus to meet the coach’s specific needs.
The Coaching Fundamentals Workshop (CFW) focuses on coaching principles and skills for beginner to low-intermediate players. This workshop is a two-day, in-person workshop facilitated by National Coach Developers. It certifies coaches as Level 1 upon meeting additional requirements with separate coaching organizations (i.e. RSPA or PTR).
The Play Facilitators Workshop (PFW) emphasizes core principles, including competence, confidence, connection, character and creativity, to create a joyful and player-centric environment. This workshop is a short, three hour, on-court experience that serves to preview what a CFW would cover. It aims to empower coaches to shape tennis development for beginners.
